National Best of the Best BBQ Sauce competition winners announced for 2009
Douglas, GA - In order to find the Best of the Best BBQ Sauce, Burger King and the National BBQ Festival teamed up again in 2009 and accepted over 100 entries from award-winning barbecue sauces. This allowed the pallets of judges to taste only the top award-winning barbecue sauces in America and the only event known to have this requirement. The sauce competition is held in conjunction with the festival's judging school in October of each year with the winners announced at the National BBQ Festival on Friday, October 30, 2009.
From over 100 entries of already documented award-winning sauces, the top honor of Grand Champion went to Uncle Kenny's Original, Winter Garden, FL, with Reserve Grand honors awarded to Ole Ray's Peach-A-Licious from Goshen, OH. The Grand Champion received a trophy and a $2,000 advertising contract with the National Barbecue News to market and promote their sauce. Reserve Grand received a trophy and a $1,000 contract. Past winners report there is no price to be placed on the bragging rights received from their making this list while competing with award-winning top sauces from as far away as Australia.
In previous years winning sauces have come predominately from the Tomato Mild and Tomato Spicy category with this being the first year for a sauce entering the Mustard Mild Category to take top honors with a Fruit Mild taking Reserve Grand.
